From foggy winter mornings to monsoon rain: a simple, season-by-season guide to running clothes for the Kathmandu Valley.

Winter (roughly December to February)
Early mornings can be close to freezing while the afternoon sun is pleasant. The rule: dress for ten minutes in, not for the first step out of the door. You'll warm up fast.
- A quick-dry tee as the base layer, so sweat doesn't chill you later.
- A light hoodie or jacket you can take off and tie around your waist.
- Full-length joggers or track pants.
- A thin cap or gloves on the coldest mornings.
Spring and pre-monsoon (roughly March to May)
Days heat up quickly and the air can be dry and dusty. Run early or late, and keep it light.
- Half-sleeve or sleeveless quick-dry tops.
- Shorts or light tapered joggers.
- A cap for the sun, and water for anything over 30–40 minutes.
- On high-pollution days, check the air quality before you head out and consider moving the session indoors.
Monsoon (roughly June to September)
Warm, humid and wet. You will get soaked — the goal is to stay comfortable while you do.
- Quick-dry everything: wet cotton gets heavy and rubs.
- Fitted rather than baggy layers, to reduce chafing.
- Shoes with grip for slick roads, and something bright so drivers see you in grey light.
- Rinse and hang kit to dry straight after — damp gear left in a bag is how smells start.
Autumn (roughly October to November)
Many runners' favourite season: clear skies, cooler mornings and comfortable afternoons. A tee and joggers cover most runs; bring a light layer for dawn starts.
